SPRINGFIELD UNDERGROUND.
What goes on at Springfield Underground is never a mystery to national, regional and local businesses who are looking for an advantage. Springfield Underground is one of the largest underground manufacturing, distribution and storage complexes in the world, with more than 2.2 million square feet of space…and growing larger every day.
Springfield Underground is achieving its goal of becoming a “Food Technology Park,” providing food production, warehousing and distribution facilities in one central location for fast delivery to grocers and restaurants across the country. Springfield Underground features 1.1 million square feet of refrigerated and frozen storage used by some of the country’s largest dairy, meat and cheese companies. We also house a food-testing laboratory requiring a constant temperature of 90°F.
THE UNDERGROUND ADVANTAGE.
- Reduced heating/cooling costs with a natural temperature of 62°F.
- At approximately 100 feet underground, businesses are safe from natural and many man-made disasters.
- Added security from theft and vandalism.
- Virtually maintenance-free with no exterior structure or grounds to maintain.
EASY ACCESS. CENTRAL LOCATION.
Springfield Underground’s central location, both geographic and demographic, provides an excellent and efficient distribution center for, among others, Dairy Farmers of America and Graybar Electric. The Underground houses thousands of products and serves millions of customers by over-the-road trucking and by railcar. More than 300 trucks enter the facility every day to deliver and pick up a variety of products, including baby formula, cheese, electrical components, and meats.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Springfield Underground also includes an expanding, 500-acre commercial, office and retail development above ground, paving the way for additional businesses to take advantage of the versatility Springfield Underground has to offer.
